SEC HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Museum Building and Sponsorship

Building

The Executive Director of the SEC Historical Society has sole power to accession and de-accession materials in the collection of the virtual museum and archive. The Executive Director exercises this power in consultation with the Museum Committee, a standing committee of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees has no direct say in the building of the museum collection.

The SEC Historical Society welcomes recommendations for material to be added to the museum collection, through contact with the Executive Director. Material should not be sent to the SEC Historical Society without permission from the Executive Director. In recommending material, please adhere to the guidelines set by the Museum Committee for acceptance of material:

  • The material relates to the purpose of the virtual museum and archive.
  • The material is primary.
  • The material is not readily available through other online sources.
  • The material builds on the collection and does not duplicate what is already archived.

All donors of material to the virtual museum and archive are required to complete a release to the SEC Historical Society before the material is added to the museum collection.

Sponsorship

The SEC Historical Society welcomes gifts and grants from individuals and institutions to help build the collection and outreach of the virtual museum and archive. Gifts and grants may be given for the general purposes of the museum, or designated for the accession of specific material to the museum collection.

Gifts designated for specific material will be permanently recognized with the material in the museum. The donor will also be recognized in the Annual Report and Highlights for the year in which the gift is made.

The following guidelines will be used with designated gifts:

  • The SEC Historical Society is responsible for the authority and objectivity of the content of the museum collection.
  • Donors may recommend material for accession in the collection. The Executive Director, in consultation with the Museum Committee, has the final determination for any material added.
  • The Society will work with academics and other professionals for the building of Galleries, expansion of the Timeline, broadcast of Programs and conduct of Oral Histories. The selection and work of academics and professionals will be the responsibility of the Society, and will be independent of any donor.
