James W. Barratt

James W. Barratt, a Managing Director of Alvarez & Marsal in Washington, D.C., is the Eighth President of the Securities and Exchange Commission Historical Society.

Mr. Barratt began his volunteer service with the Society in 2002. He joined the Board of Trustees in 2006, and served as Vice President for Development (2006-2008) and President-Elect (2008-2009) before becoming President on June 1st.

As President-Elect, Mr. Barratt launched the "Thinking Forward" long-range planning effort to determine and fulfill goals for the Society during its 10th anniversary year in 2009 and beyond.

Mr. Barratt was the host for the Society's 10th Annual Meeting on June 4th, which celebrated the 75th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; and for the June 25th dinner in Washington, D.C. commemorating the anniversary.

A graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, Mr. Barratt s a Certified Public Accountant. His professional experience includes work with the SEC Division of Enforcement, Computer Sciences Corporation, a Big Four public accounting firm and FTI Consulting, before joining Alvarez & Marsal.

The Securities and Exchange Commission Historical Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, shares, preserves and advances knowledge of the history of financial regulation. It is independent of and separate from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and receives no funding from the public sector.
